September 2012

I'm pretty sure the next 2 blog posts are going to break some sort of blogging etiquette, but I'm way behind and trying to catch up asap. So. There you go.
Here's the September rundown.
The weather has been ridiculously nice lately (with the occasional freakishly cold day thrown in), much too nice to stay inside, so we have certainly been taking advantage of it. The really nice thing is that we've been able to completely enjoy the weather and not fall behind in school at all since a typical day takes us less than 3 hours.

We spent a lot of time at the zoo.

We joined up with a homeschool group from Nashville to learn about the civil war. This was such a cool field trip! Super interactive and totally geared towards the kids.
Roo learned all about ranks, marching, attacking, and firing on the enemy. They learned how to load and fire a musket, follow a map, and look for clues to the enemy.

We toured the plantation and saw just how people lived back then. This was in the carriage house; it was her favorite.

She learned what it was like to be an injured soldier on the battle field, how many soldiers were simply left to die, and how most of the injured had to continue to help the more seriously injured or fight even with their wounds!

She practiced morse code.

She learned what the signal flags meant and how to do certain signals.

The big finale was learning how to load a cannon and then watching it fire! That thing was loud!

Of course it wouldn't be us if there wasn't silliness involved!

We followed that amazing experience up with a trip to the famous Loveless Cafe. If you've never been, go.

We spent more time at the zoo. . . .

Phia played lots.

She discovered that she loves playing in the nook behind my closet door. In the dark! (please ignore the  mess, we were cleaning out the closet that day so it was a little out of control.) I have since turned this area into a really cool spot with a cozy blanket and mirror and both girls spend a lot of time there. It helps a lot when I am trying to get ready!

Both girls help with the laundry! Roo is so great with Phia; she patiently teaches her so many things, and never rushes her. Both girls bring in the clothes to load. Then Roo moves the clothes from the washer to the dryer. They both move them from the dryer to the couch. Mommy folds and they both put all the girls' clothes away. I'm so proud of my little helpers!

Still loving bath time.

Phia's biggest obsession this month is "hair bows". Headbands really. She will spend forever putting them on her arm, taking them off, and replacing them until they are just right in her mind. Then she will walk around for hours with them on her arm. She thinks they are very "pitty" (pretty)

Most days, the girls play really nicely together.

Phia really loves helping mommy dust-even under the couches!

We never let a little rain stop us from a good cookout!

Playing at the park with the besties!

that's a lot of girls!

More silliness.

Acting crazy at Loveless grill. (for some reason blogger keeps putting this picture way down here and its a pain to move it!)

Roo started ballet this month and loves every second. Phia loves it too. If we even mention the word ballet, she repeats "ballllllllaaaaaaaayyyyyy" over and over for at least half and hour.

Hair bows all the time. Seriously, she LOVES them.

a little ballet practice in the kitchen.

Phia still insists on feeding herself. Notice the fork in the hand she is NOT eating with.

More outside time. i think Phia might be our girl athlete.

Anytime we go outside or get out of the car when we return home, Phia has to go out front and see the "floweyes". She loves them and will spend at least 20 minutes looking, smelling, and picking them. She thinks they are "pitty"

Of course there is lots of cozy, snuggle time too.

So that wraps up September.
Even more pics coming in October!
