Well I haven't had a lot of time to sit down a write this past week, but I wanted to catch up on some cute things the Little Princess has said and done recently (and not so recently).
We had a great 4th of July! We spent Saturday night at the fireworks show with PapaGigi and some friends from Brother's soccer team. As usual, the show was great. It was even more great because while there, we got to eat yummy festival food!! For us, this meant corn dogs, foot long pronto pups, bbq nachos, snow cones, and (drum roll please) COTTON CANDY!! YAY!
Nothing like a heathy festival meal! Nothing like it. My favorite part though was B sitting in my lap exactly like she has every single year, hands over her ears, watching in awe.
Sunday we spent the day lounging around the house for a while, went to see Shrek 4ever After (good, but nowhere near as good as Toy Story 3), then came home. The kids played around in the back yard (Brother played, Princess lounged on a raft in her little plastic pool eating popsicles in true Princess style), while Aunt M and I watched and sipped margaritas, and Prince Daddy grilled us a wonderful meal.
After dark we shot off some of our own fireworks. B wasn't as impressed as I'd hoped with the sparklers I bought. She decided she enjoyed just watching much more. This experience was vastly improved by the fact that apparently some (a lot) of our neighbors have a never-ending desire to out-do each other at every holiday. So, there were HUGE fireworks going off from every direction all over the neighborhood! These people must have spent at least a thousand dollars apiece, but hey, we certainly aren't going to complain! Their insane competition only ensures that we get to enjoy a neighborhood full of awesomeness each holiday!
And for that neighbors, we thank you!
Most recently, we have been watching a lot of soccer since the World cup has been going on. Surprisingly, she watches a lot of it with us. Of course every game she picks her favorite for the win, based on nothing more than who she feels has the prettiest jersey, she IS a prissy little princess after all, how else would she pick a winner? So when Germany took on Argentina, naturally she picked Argentina-they had blue jerseys and Germany had black-EWW! (she will learn the value and beauty of having black in her wardrobe one day!)
The funny part was, she could not remember the name of the team. They went from Argentina to ARMentina to GERMANtina! It just got better every time!
She makes everything more fun! Even non-stop soccer for a month. . .
This past week we have had a big event going on. . .Swim Lessons! Although she didn't quite learn to swim (she's almost there. She just can't keep that booty up!), she did really enjoy her time in the pool with her friend Mallory. Princess B has come a long way this summer when it comes to water. Only about a month ago did she decide it was not battery acid nor instantaneous death to have it touch your face. Baths were ok, even floating in the pool was fine. But she would NOT let even a single drop touch her beautiful little face without a full blown freak out. But like I said, about a month ago, something changed. On a trip to Louisiana, we were trying to talk her into jumping off the side of the pool, of course she wasn't having any of it, and adamantly refused. Then I remembered something, just a little something really. . .Little Precious HATES to lose. So I casually threw out, "That's ok honey, if you don't want to jump, you certainly don't have to." Then on Brother's next leap Daddy and I let out huge cheers, "YAAAAAY BROTHER!!!! You win the jumping contest!!! WHOOHOO!" Before we knew it, she was cannon balling off the side. No lie. I don't know where she gets her competitive nature from. . .ahem. . . .
But even then we didn't expect the monster we created.
About a week later, a friend graciously loaned us her pool while she was out of town. I knew the pool had a slide and diving board, so before we got there I was trying to con B into doing them. "If you go down the slide and jump off the diving board 3 times each, we will go get ice cream." Etc. Etc. No conning necessary. She barely had her floaties inflated before she was zooming down the slide and jumping off the board. But she had bigger dreams than a little ol' water slide and diving board! The back of the pool had a ledge about 4 feet high, and THIS was to be her greatest feat ever!
As she climbed to the top, no one believed she was really going to do it, but she quickly proved us wrong! She took one quick glance over the edge to make she she knew how far to jump, and then sailed right on over! And over and over and over. Since then, she has defeated numerous diving boards, dived for rings, and even gone down a couple of big, twisty water slides. Now she tells us she wants to tube alone when we go on our big family vacation this year. We shall see.
We shall see.
One of my personal favorites lately is "accordion to my research." She's been watching a lot of Magic School Bus, and one of the characters always says, "According to my research. . ." Of course, in true Bella style, she says it just a little bit off. The best part is that she says it with the most random sentences. "Accordion to my research, the popsicles grow butterflies in the pans." None of it ever makes sense, but it always makes us laugh!
Now for my most favorite story of the day. (She is going to kill me for this one one day!)
A while back, out of the blue, she asks me, "Do boys have tu-tus too?"
Me: No boys have penises. And you know, your private isn't really called a tu-tu. It's called a vagina.
(now, you MUST imagine the following sentence being said in the most breathless, amazed voice you can imagine, because that is exactly how she said it)
"VAGINA?! That is a BEAUTIFUL name! I want to call my tu-tu a vagina!"
I just love that girl so much. She reminds me all the time to find the beauty is everything. Even the word vagina.
